The CHAMPAGNE gene

The Champagne gene is often known as the 'shiney' gene. It acts a lot like the Creme gene.

GOLD - a chestnut based horse with 1 or 2 Champagne genes. The body is a golden color, usually with a white mane & tail. The skin is mottled, light peach in color & eyes are usually amber. Foals are born chestnut with blue eyes and pink skin.

AMBER - a bay based horse with 1 or 2 Champagne genes. The body will usually be a golden tan with dark brown points. The skin is mottled, light & eyes are usually amber. Foals are born bay with blue eyes and pink skin.

CLASSIC - a black based horse with 1 or 2 Champagne genes. The body is a nearly lilac tan, with darker points of the same hue. The skin is mottled, light & eyes are usually amber. Foals are born black with blue eyes and pink skin.
