The SILVER DAPPLE gene

The Silver Dapple gene ONLY effects black. It mostly dilutes the mane ans tails.

CHESTNUT SILVER - a chestnut based horse with 1 or 2 Silver Dapple genes. Typical color looks no different than any other chestnut horse. The offspring and DNA testing is the only way to know if they carry the gene.

BAY SILVER - a bay based horse with 1 or 2 Silver Dapple genes. These are often mistaken for flaxen chestnuts. They have a red or brown body, the lower legs are lightened to chocolate, and the mane and tail are a silvery blonde.

BLACK SILVER - a black based horse with 1 or 2 Silver Dapple genes. The body color is diluted to a chocolate and the mane and tail are lightened to a silvery blonde.
