The DUN gene

The dun gene dilutes the body to a dull color and leaves the primitive markings the darker undiluted color. The dun gene requires one or more of thr fowlling primitive markings:
Dorsel stripe, leg bars, cobwebbing, fishboning, shoulder bars or ear tips.

RED DUN - a chestnut based horse with 1 or 2 dun genes. Typical color is a light, dull apricot color with mane, tail and primitive markings a darker shade.

BAY DUN - a bay based horse with 1 or 2 dun genes. Typical color is a dull peanut butter color with black mane, tail, legs and primitive markings.

GRULLO(A) - a black based horse with 1 or 2 dun genes. Typical color is a slate grey, mouse colored body with black legs,mane tail and primitive markings.
